An Unending Crusade by Luches An Unending Crusade by Luches
"Even till death I will serve, for the honour of the Emperor"

The Battle for Drakkarge Hive had dragged for months since Orkish reinforcements swept the Imperial Guards
regiments off the Plains of Pelida, in response the Imperium commander held back 4 Black Templars Fighting
Companies till the Orkish momentum was broken after Orkish invaders battled the entrenched Imperial Guards
forces amongst the streets of Drakkarge.

Over the skies the Imperial Navy vessels kept the Orks pinned when the great gates that lead into the
inner hive open as Black Templars lead by the Venerable Brother Hildebrand came charging out.

"No Pity! No Remorse! No Fear!"

-Brother Hildebrand-

Brother Hildebrand had been in the service of Black Templars since the early days of the Chapter, best known
for his preference for close combat, he rises through the ranks and during the desperate Siege of Khadon he
become the Emperor's Champion after receiving the vision of the Emperor.

Amidst the chaos of battle, he managed to seek out and cut down the Ork warboss, Grim Ironmaw Argok in a duel,
after which he continue to hack his way through the green horde, only falling from his many wounds when Imperium
victory was assured. Despite the severity of his wound, death is not an excuse from service for this Champion, he
cling on to life as his battle brothers retrieved his broken body and was immediately interred into the cold
sarcophagus of a Dreadnought.

Even as a Dreadnought, his righteous zeal and his preference for close combat never ceased, while years of services
had brought him wisdom in battle, he will not hesitate to charge into battle with his Great-sword leading his
battle brothers.

~Artist note~
I do not have a live stream because I am just not too used to painting before people, and I really took my time to
paint personal stuffs, so it can get very boring ^^;

But here's a time lapse video instead, basically, I tried saving every a couple hours (maybe even lesser) into the painting

[link]

So enjoy it :)
(P.S please take a while and let youtube process it ^^;, and don't mind my lousy video making skills.

Cheers +fav if you like :p

..... someone finally found me the actual head that matched you painting.... the only thing I hate worse than doing a bad job....

....is re-doing a GOOD one.

I'll feel better once I get it fixed, because now that I have the right piece, I'm no longer happy with the substituted head AT ALL.

I didn't think a Dreadnaught could get anymore awesome than this one, his helmet reminds me of the dude from Dark souls and he is holding an industrial sized power sword x) nice!

It has been a labor of love, but I have an update for you, my friend.

dezmarth.deviantart.com/art/Ch…

"Fear not, for even though your muscles may tear, and the bones in your body might break... the Emperor shall provide you the strength to continue your mission. Even death itself cannot lay hold to those with a strong enough will to purge the enemy from his lands, and Brother Hildebrand should be a shining example to you all!" - Marshall Vigilus

This is some bloody awesome artwork but I can't help but point out the Space Marine colours used here are that of the Crimson Fists, not the Black Templars ^^;.

Nope, it's not the crimson fist... the crimson fist will be blue with red fist.

Black templars colors are black, white and red

And just something interesting

From 40k wikia
"The Declates Crusade (Date Unknown.M41) - The Declates Crusade was a joint Imperial Crusade against the Ork WAAAGH! Gitzmott carried out by both the Crimson Fists and Black Templars Space Marine Chapters in the heavily-populated Declates System. As a symbol of solidarity against what seemed to be an innumerable foe, Astartes from both Chapters "exchanged" iconography and often fought in mixed squads. Black Templars painted their left hands red, and Crimson Fists painted a Templar Cross onto their right knee. This unusual gesture of unity helped establish a tight bond that steeled the resolve of the brave warriors involved in the ultimately successful cleansing of the system from the Greenskins' taint."

Yeah I know that (along with the Declates Crusade lore, some cool stuff there) but either I'm colour blind or that Dreadnought and Land Raider are dull blue all over with red fists!

Although I do have trouble with telling apart very dark colours....

Nah, probably is the monitor color issues -_-... different monitor tend to shift towards different shades, some more reddish, others blueish,
unless our 2 monitor is calibrated the same way, you will probably see a slightly different shade of color.

And I did do a Crimson fists piece, the blue is more obvious there

With respect, you may want to check your monitor calibration then. As it very much looked like a Crimson Fist to me too on both my monitors (Cintiq and iMac, both calibrated with a SpyderPro). It's subtle, but there is a lot of blue in those greys, when really it should be reddish brown considering the environment..

Anyway, it's still an amazing action shot, and your gallery is superb :D

That must be it because I can sort of see a darkish grey scheme if I squint hard enough; lousy laptop damaged eyes.

Ah right, I'll go check that out and see the contrast then.

Great work man.
Since I'm writing on my own fanfic right now, I was worried about giving the oldest Dreadnought a thunderhammer build specificly for him, but after seeing this masterpiece...I'll write it that way :)

When I paint this, I wasn't very concern about the fluff, I was painting like I am doing a kitbash

So the end result is this :) It's unique, although some traditionists or purist of the fluffs are not
that sold :p

But most importantly, at the end of the day, you must have fun doing it, because in some ways
it's your original work/character :)

Right now, my main problem will be having to find a way to convert a left arm CCW, into a right arm CCW. I'm gonna say maybe a month of work, given time schedules. More perhaps if I'll have to green stuff the whole thing.

Labor of love, and will be such an awesome piece to bring to the table. I can see it now...

Ork Player: "Dude, what dafuq is that??"

Me (Templars): "Hildebrand.... and that's his 'I hate dakka.' face."

Awaiting parts, I've a few Grey Knights players that have the parts I need that use hammers instead of the greatsword. After that, it's only a matter of getting that specific claw arm. I linked you to the current progress, currently inside my 40K folder.
