I went the exact same way as you except the difference of schools. I am not in my young years but this is what I want to do. I am truly pushing myself extremely hard now. If you have any advice to get more out of my great mentors and the freetime that is now nomore freetime but creativity/drawing-time then I would really appreciate any advice
I too fancy the 2d and narrative more than going 3d, even though I must say I love making animations as well but that is simply just another great way of learning other ways to create art.
